A realtime Virtual Reality exploration tool for CT data. This prototype is based on the custom pathtracer developed by Janne Pulkkinen, and it allows a user to explore tomographic data in room-scale by walking around and inside a dataset. With the controllers in hand, the user is able to light parts of the dataset and cut the data open non-destructively to peer into the structures inside. Navigation around the data is done by simply moving around in the physical space.
The VR prototype has toured with us to The Finnish Science Centre Heureka, Go Short film festival in Nijmegen, Imagine Science Film Festival in New York where it was demoed for festival audiences and the AMNH staff, at the NYU campus in Abu Dhabi and has also been demonstrated by the Ghent University Centre for X-ray Tomography.
